Johanna Baschke
absence I

In Johanna Baschke’s work, she photographed two isolated people and arranged them in a digital framework. Together, they create a spacious image, leaving an unbridgeable void between the two subjects. Gestures, facial expressions, and composition highlight the distance and incapacity. Bridges of color between the two people contribute to visual similarities, while the objects they hold target difference. Baschke generalizes the inactivity of these waiting people: humans are socially frozen and lifted onto the stage as mirrorless beings.
