Mariia Mytrofanova’s Single Picket Performance “?” tells of the impossibility of being an apolitical artist in times like these. Every day from 16.-30.04.22, she stood on the main square in Krakow and held vigil. She documented it live on Instagram. She held up a canvas wrapped in bandages to reflect the pain and trauma of the sufferings. The recorded question mark is a proxy for all that is unbelievable, for all the questions that the war in the Ukraine triggers. Why? What for? How is it possible? How should it end?
