In Freya Hattenberger’s work “Imagine it’s Lockdown and everyone is posting yoga-videos”, physical experiences and emotional states during self-isolation are translated into visual language. Hattenberger’s concern along the way is the feedback effect and the experience of an inside and outside: she intends to publicize what functions as an internal system. The transitions from the public to the private are more continuous than ever with the media pervasion of everyday life. Formally, the work depicts typologies of the body and underlines its symbolism. The body communicates performatively with the urban space and enters into a new dialogue. The slogans of “self-enlightenment” are detached from their allegedly spiritual context and become legible as neoliberal platitudes as a result.
